In the past, the Systems Assessment Center of Energy Systems and Infrastructure Analysis Division held training workshops to engage and support the model’s user base. To accommodate the growing demand for training workshops, the Life Cycle Analysis and Technology Assessment Department of Energy Systems and Infrastructure Assessment Division developed the Argonne R&D GREET Train-the-Trainer program with financial support from the US Department of Energy and technical assistance from the Great Plains Institute. The Argonne R&D GREET Train-the-Trainer program aims to train a cohort of R&D GREET trainers through a train-the-trainer style format. Argonne certified successful trainers who can help R&D GREET users learn how to use the model through hosting user workshops across the nation. In one calendar year, the program supported the training of more than 300 R&D GREET users across the nation.

2025 R&D GREET® Train-the-Trainer Program (January 22-March 17, 2025)

From January 22-March 17, 2025, a specialized cohort of trainers from around the country completed a rigorous training course that covered R&D GREET modeling capabilities, applications of the R&D GREET model, and tools to train others on the R&D GREET model. Nineteen trainers that completed the course were certified by Argonne National Laboratory as R&D GREET experts. The certified trainers are conducting R&D GREET user workshops around the country to educate more new users on the model.

2025 R&D GREET® Train-the-Trainer Program (starting June, 2025)

The two-month train-the-trainer program introduced R&D GREET modeling capabilities and applications of the R&D GREET model to address energy and environmental impacts of transportation fuels, transportation subsectors, agricultural decarbonization, and more. The materials used in the training program are linked below and available for public use. Each topic covered in the program contains five materials: an introduction slide deck to provide context, a worksheet with a series of real-world application scenarios that can be modeled in the R&D GREET model, a demonstration slide deck with detailed step-by-step instructions for modeling the questions on the worksheet, a quiz with additional applications of the R&D GREET model and its answer key.
