ICAO-GREET

Argonne National Laboratory has been a member of the Fuels Task Group (FTG, formerly Alternative Fuel Task Group) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) since 2014. Argonne, together with MIT, the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, the University of Hasselt, and the University Toronto, evaluated the default core life-cycle analysis (CLCA) values of a variety of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) pathways for ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).

For that ICAO effort, Argonne has developed a GREET version, referred to as ICAO-GREET version, for estimating and verifying default CLCA values of the COIRSIA-approved SAF pathways. The ICAO-GREET version specifically has the CORSIA tab added to the ANL R&D GREET version. This is where the life-cycle inventory data used to calculate default CLCA values are implemented and the CLCA values (GHG emissions and energy use) calculated in GREET are presented (with disaggregated results for LCA stages [i.e., cultivation/collection, feedstock transportation, fuel production, fuel transportation, and fuel combustion]). The completed ICAO-GREET, as posted here, was originally based on ANL R&D GREET 2019.
