The GREET team at the Life Cycle Analysis and Technology Assessment Department of Argonne National Laboratory is pleased to announce the release of the updated R&D GREET Battery Module.
The Life Cycle Analysis and Technology Assessment Department at Argonne National Laboratory has developed an interactive, standalone battery module (R&D GREET Battery Module) to have a
consistent battery life-cycle analysis platform with the most up-to-date datasets. It is intended to facilitate a user-friendly way of investigating the
inventory and the environmental impacts/emissions of select battery chemistries available in R&D GREET. For easy access, this module uses Microsoft Excel
with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to enable an interactive user interface.
In this release, we include background datasets for batteries with the most up-to-date R&D GREET 2024 excel module.
The R&D GREET Battery Module interacts with the R&D GREET vehicle cycle model (GREET2) by directly reading upstream life cycle energy uses and emissions for
key inputs to various stages in various battery production pathways. This version allows the user to change critical supply chain information for battery
materials like lithium carbonate and hydroxide. Users can also modify the life cycle energy and emissions of the key manufacturing steps like cathode production
and battery assembly. Additionally, users can modify the upstream emissions associated with key auxiliary materials like aluminum and graphite and investigate
the resulting change in emissions from a unit kWh battery produced in the U.S.
The connection to the R&D GREET2 model is automatic and it works in the background to provide the results to the interactive R&D GREET Battery Module excel file.
